LHWHS Junior Wins First Place in Music Composition Event

LHWHS junior Yueheng Wang recently won first place in the University of Missouri’s Creating Original Music Project (COMP).

The competition invites K-12 students from across Missouri to compose original works in a variety of music styles.

Wang, who plays trumpet, won first place for his piece, Naked Trees.

He has been invited to attend the COMP Festival on April 20 at the University of Missouri where all winners’ pieces will be performed at a concert.

Wang has now been recognized in the COMP for five consecutive years; he won 2nd place in his high school category in 2022 and 2023, and first place in his middle school category in 2020 and 2021.

Additionally, the Ladue Chamber Orchestra will perform another one of Wang’s compositions, Mountains and Seas, on April 4 at 7 p.m. at LHWHS.

Wang also has been accepted into the Juilliard School of Music’s summer program, an intensive workshop for high school composers led by Juilliard’s faculty of world-renowned composers.
