The American School Counselor Association names Ladue Schools' Dr. Sara Carpenter as Ethics Committee Chair

Ladue School District is proud to announce that Sara Carpenter, Ph.D., has been named the 2026-2027 American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Ethics Committee Chair.

Dr. Carpenter is a school counselor at Ladue Middle School (LMS) and most recently served as assistant chair of the ASCA Ethics Committee from 2025-2026.

“I am grateful for the dedication and work that Dr. Carpenter does for our middle school community,” said LMS Principal Dr. Angela Thompson. “Now that she’s serving at the helm for ASCA, I am thrilled about the work she will embark upon to keep the counseling profession grounded, informed, and student‑centered.”

The Ethics Committee for ASCA has challenging responsibilities, from answering tough ethical questions to shaping professional learning and strengthening the ASCA Ethical Standards.

Dr. Carpenter was a lead contributor to the 2026 ASCA Information Gathering Tool: Suicide Concern and has presented on the topic, along with others, as part of the ASCA webinar series and in-person presentations at the ASCA Annual Conference. Carpenter is also a frequent author of ethics articles in the ASCA School Counselor magazine.

“Dr. Carpenter has been a valuable member of the ASCA Ethics Committee for the past two years, and we look forward to working with her in her new leadership role,” said Jill Cook, CAE, ASCA executive director.

The ASCA Ethics Committee focuses on developing content, resources, and presentations that advance the association’s commitment to professional ethics.
