Two Ladue Horton Watkins High School students recently stood out for outstanding performances with the Community Music School (CMS) of Webster University’s orchestras.
Norah Murphy, a junior, made her debut with the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra (YPSO) after earning recognition as one of the winners of a recent Concerto Competition. Norah began her percussion studies in 2020 under Michael Faris, Director of Young People’s Orchestra Percussion at CMS, and her success has continued to flourish into 2025. Last summer, she attended the prestigious Julliard Percussion Seminar, and in the fall, she secured spots in both the St. Louis All-Suburban Honors Band and All-Suburban Choir. She capped off an exceptional year by being awarded an Artistic Merit Scholarship from CMS.
Freshman Eric Tang also recently showcased his talent during the Young People’s Concert Orchestra (YPCO) concert. Eric and three other marimba players performed a unique version of Handel’s Concerto for Organ and Orchestra in F Major, arranged for two marimbas. Eric, who also studies percussion with Michael Faris, has played piano for seven years. He is a member of LHWHS’ top-performing ensembles and was recently part of the St. Louis All-Suburban Honors Band.
“Congratulations to Ladue Schools music program districtwide for supporting your talented young musicians,” said Gina Christopher, CMS Orchestras & Ensembles representative. “We are very happy that Ladue School District students participate in our orchestras and ensembles and have students from elementary through high school represented in our groups each year.”
The accomplishments of Norah Murphy and Eric Tang are a testament to the strong music community in Ladue Schools. Congratulations to these two musical stars who showcased their talents to the community.
