LHWHS Students Excel in Prestigious CMS Scholarship Competition

Two Ladue Horton Watkins High School sophomores are making their mark on the St. Louis music scene. Yuntian Hao and Aston Liang were among just four students selected as finalists in the 2025 Preparatory Program (Prep) Scholarship Competition, hosted by the Community Music School of Webster University (CMS). The competition took place on September 7 in the CMS Concert Hall.

After two days of auditions and performances, both students earned finalist recognition—an impressive achievement showcasing their hard work and talent. Aston went on to win the competition, receiving the annual Prep Program Scholarship. He credits Ladue Schools’ orchestra program for sparking his love of music and supporting his musical journey.

The Prep Program is CMS’s most advanced offering, providing students with opportunities to study chamber music, learn from professional musicians—including members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra—and perform at a high level. The program helps develop well-rounded musicians prepared for lifelong success.

Aston is no stranger to performing on big stages. He has participated in several CMS programs, including YPSO, and this past spring, he had the unforgettable opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Congratulations to Yuntian and Aston for representing Ladue Schools with excellence
