Ladue Students Topple Competition at State Chess Tourney

Students from several Ladue schools brought home hardware from the 2024 Missouri State Scholastic Chess Championships in March.

The high school team won its third-consecutive state championship; the following students contributed to the effort (each student’s individual placement included):

  • Luke Ye (10) won 1st place on Board 1
  • Newman Shen (9) won 2nd on Board 2
  • Jason Shi (10) won 5th on Board 2
  • Ruilong Tang (9) won 1st on Board 3
  • Celina Zhou (10) won 2nd on Board 3
  • Jenna Song (10) won 1st on Board 4
  • Angella Zhang (9) won 2nd on Board 4
  • Vishmi Rajapaksha (11) won 3rd on Board 4

Ladue Middle School teams won the state title in both the 8th Grade and Under and 6th Grade and Under divisions.

In the 8th Grade and Under division, individual awards went to:

  • Alex Zhang, 1st place
  • Ayden Huang, 2nd place
  • Forrest Yang, 4th place
  • Kevin Shi, 8th place

Additionally, Albert Shi received medalist honors.

In the 6th Grade and Under division, Austin Wang won third place while Simon Shen, Alice Chang, and Olivia Cao were medalists; all are students at Ladue Middle School.

In the 5th Grade and Under division, Kyle Huang (Conway) won 4th place, Aaron Chen (FGC) won 7th place and Selena Yang (FGC) was a medalist.

In the 3rd Grade and Under division, Andrew Fang (Spoede) won 2nd place while Jennie Liang (Old Bonhomme) was a medalist.
