Ladue Schools Superintendent Dr. Jim Wipke Announces Retirement

The Ladue School District today announced that Superintendent Jim Wipke, Ed.D., plans to retire at the close of the 2025-26 school year, effective June 30, 2026.

Dr. Wipke shared his intentions in a letter to Ladue Schools staff and community dated July 11, and the Board of Education has accepted his one-year notice.

For the past seven years, Dr. Wipke, a respected leader in the Ladue School District community, has served with incredible dedication and a profound commitment to putting students first. Under his leadership, the district successfully navigated the COVID-19 pandemic and championed the $126 million Prop L referendum, which has created future-ready learning environments across the district. He also significantly enhanced school safety features for both students and staff. Beyond these initiatives, Wipke has been a visible presence at countless student activities, sporting events, and fine arts performances. In 2022, he also spearheaded the development of the five-year Strategic Plan, setting a clear vision for the district's future.

Following the announcement, the Ladue Schools Board of Education extended its gratitude for Wipke’s outstanding leadership.

“Under his guidance, Ladue Schools has proudly maintained its reputation for two consecutive years as the #6-ranked school district in the U.S. and the Best School District in Missouri,” said Marissa Rosen, President, Ladue Schools Board of Education. “Dr. Wipke's leadership has been notably defined by his exceptional communication skills and his genuine commitment to keeping everyone informed and connected through his weekly Friday Connections, podcasts, blogs, social media, and videos. His personal investment in the well-being and success of every member of the Ladue Schools family will be truly missed.”

The Board of Education has already begun the foundational work of identifying the district's next leader. They are in the process of issuing a request for proposal to retain an executive search firm to assist in finding Wipke’s replacement.

“We are seeking an individual who will build upon Ladue’s strong tradition of excellence. To ensure a smooth transition, the new superintendent will have the invaluable opportunity to work alongside and job-shadow Dr. Wipke during the second semester of the 2025-26 school year, as appropriate,” Rosen shared.

A clear timeline for the Ladue School District superintendent search has been established. The Ladue Schools Communications and Human Resources teams, along with the search firm, will work collaboratively to engage its staff and community throughout this process, maintaining their commitment to clear and transparent communications. More details about how the community can participate will be shared in the coming weeks.
