Ladue Schools Elementary Teams Shine at St. Louis Elementary Book Battle

The spirit of teamwork, commitment, and a deep love for reading was on display last week as four of our elementary schools participated in the annual St. Louis Elementary Book Battle—and they did so with outstanding success!

Representing Conway Elementary, Fifth Grade Center, Old Bonhomme Elementary, and Spoede Elementary, these enthusiastic young readers have been preparing for this moment since January. Each team, composed of 4th and 5th-grade students, read, re-read, and studied a list of 10 books, attending weekly practice sessions where they were quizzed on key details, themes, and plotlines. These sessions fostered not only individual comprehension but also deep collaboration among teammates.

“Our students truly shone during the recent Book Battle competition,” said Susan Kelley

Librarian at Old Bonhomme Elementary School. “Their dedication was evident as they read and re-read books, preparing tirelessly for the big competition. Meeting weekly during recess, they demonstrated incredible teamwork, honing their knowledge and strategies together. Beyond their hard work, they also showcased sportsmanship, cheering on peers and competing with integrity. As librarians, we couldn't be more proud of their effort, positive attitudes, and the way they represented our school district!”

Each team includes up to 10 students who spend the year reading together, sharing ideas, and challenging each other with questions. It all leads up to an exciting, fast-paced trivia showdown where teamwork, quick thinking, and book smarts take center stage!

Congratulations to all the students, staff, and families who supported these remarkable teams. Your hard work inspires readers across our district!
