Inspiring Digital Leadership: How Digital4Good Empowered Ladue Schools Students to Create Positive Change Online

In today’s digital age, the need for online awareness and safety is more pressing than ever. Recognizing this, Ladue Schools welcomed Digital4Good, a nonprofit that promotes positive digital engagement, to present their inspiring and impactful #ICanHelp presentation to students at Ladue Fifth Grade Center, Ladue Middle School, and Ladue Horton Watkins High School.

Co-founder Kim Karr led the sessions, which focused on creating a safer, kinder online community and empowering students to become “Digital First Responders.” Her message was clear: just as negativity can spread rapidly online, positivity can create a ripple effect.

“Kindness is saving lives, and it doesn’t have to be anything big — a simple Post-it note on a locker might be all it takes,” she detailed.

Through real-life stories and practical guidance, Karr emphasized how a kind word, a helpful comment, or even a simple smile can significantly impact someone’s life.

“Students are the core of the solution,” she explained. “#ICANHELP has worked with over 450,000 students to be the digital change they want to see.”

By equipping students with the tools to address cyberbullying, harassment, and other online challenges, the #ICanHelp assembly empowers them to turn their own digital habits into forces for good and combat online toxicity.

The assembly resonated with students and staff, sparking meaningful conversations about the challenges and opportunities of living in a digital world. Karr showcased real-world scenarios with interactive examples between students as well as students and staff. Students becoming “Digital First Responders” was a key component of the presentation, which involved being prepared to address and defuse online negativity as it arose.

“The safety of our students is one of our district’s primary objectives,” said Tim Reboulet, Ladue Schools Coordinator of School Safety and Security. “Helping to educate, empower, and equip our students with strategies to manage cyberbullying, foster a positive digital footprint, and encourage their peers to promote good use of technology, especially on social media, is a major part of our comprehensive plan. It only made sense to partner with Digital4Good given the successful program they already have in place.”
