Inspirational Philanthropist: B Brown of Spoede Elementary Featured in Award-Winning Children's Magazine

B Brown, a 4th-grader at Spoede Elementary, is described as a very loving and empathic little girl with a huge heart who has always donated her time and resources to help others. This time, her compassion for animals in need got her featured in an October edition of The Week Junior, an award-winning current affairs magazine for children aged between 8 and 14.

“In the past, B has personally handed out coats and her own food to people she thought needed it,” details Amy Ebert, B Brown’s mother. “B is a very determined and passionate person who really cares, so when she saw a brochure about animals in need, she had to do something.”

So she did!

“I took the toys that my dog didn't play with and decided to give them to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA),” B explains in the October 4, 2024, edition of the Week Junior magazine. “I wanted to volunteer with them, but they said I was too young. So my dad and I made more than 200 fliers and distributed them around our neighborhood.”

The family collected used blankets, towels, newspapers, magazines, treats, toys, and leashes, all donated to the ASPCA and the Humane Society. Upon making the donations, B was provided the opportunity to read to the dogs, which she now does weekly.

“You always have to believe in what you tell your children, which is ‘you can do anything,’” Amy stated. “Once that is said and understood, when someone says you can't, you better believe they will. Teach your children they can, and they will continue showing you they will.”

In addition to being featured in The Week Junior, B received recognition from the Spoede Elementary students and staff during Spoede Today, the school’s morning announcement video broadcasted in each class.

B Brown’s determination to engage in community service projects and make a positive difference in her community makes us Ladue Proud!
