Eagles Leading with Heart: Old Bonhomme Students Honored by "Do The Right Thing"

Ladue Schools is incredibly proud to celebrate three outstanding Old Bonhomme Elementary students—Kamran Dalal, Selah Powers, and Isla Berla—who were recently selected as top nominees for the prestigious "Do The Right Thing" program.

This community-wide honor recognizes students who distinguish themselves through exceptional character, integrity, and daily acts of kindness. This week, these three "Eagles" were celebrated at a special ceremony and featured on First Alert 4 News for representing the very best of our school community.

Isla Berla: An Advocate for Others

Isla was nominated for her remarkable empathy and proactive commitment to inclusion. Most notably, Isla demonstrated exceptional maturity when she recognized a peer who was struggling to make friends and feeling isolated. Rather than remaining a bystander, she took the initiative to visit school counselors to advocate for this student, ensuring they received the support and connection they needed. Her ability to look outside herself to care for the well-being of the entire school makes her a standout leader.

Kamran Dalal: Bridging Generations Through Art

Kamran was recognized for turning a personal passion into a schoolwide movement of generosity. Kamran established a permanent art donation bin in the school’s art room, encouraging peers to donate their creative works. He then partnered with the organization Gentle Generations to coordinate the delivery of these pieces to a local nursing home. By personally hand-delivering art to local seniors, Kamran used his organizational skills to build meaningful connections across generations.

Selah Powers: A Champion for Inclusivity

Selah has become a pillar of Old Bonhomme through her dedication to welcoming new students. Recognizing that communication is the foundation of friendship, Selah frequently seeks guidance from staff to learn how to better communicate with peers who speak other languages, refusing to let a language barrier hinder a connection. Beyond just helping, she is a leader who offers creative suggestions to staff on how to better support a diverse student body. Her maturity and constant drive to make school a more welcoming place make her a true role model.

Congratulations to our honorees for showing us all what it truly means to "do the right thing!
