Cell Phone and Personal Device Policy
Cell Phone/Electronic Personal Communication Device Usage
Ladue School District is committed to ensuring each student is successful in school, life, and beyond. This includes helping them develop essential skills to learn how to leverage technology while setting boundaries that support focus, productivity, and well-being.
Ladue Schools will be a cell phone-free district starting with the 2025-26 school year. This new policy is in alignment with Senate Bill 68 (Section 162.207); a new Missouri law. Cell phones/electronic personal communication devices, including smartwatches, laptops, and tablets, must be turned off and put away during the school day at all K-12 schools.
A new Missouri law now requires a complete ban on the use of cell phone/electronic personal communication devices during the school day.
The Ladue Schools Board of Education has since approved a new policy to align with the state law. You can read more about our policy and the Missouri law.
Ladue Schools Board Policy: Cell Phone/Electronic Personal Communication Device Usage
Using, displaying, or turning on a cell phone or personal electronic communication device for the entire school day, including passing periods, mealtime, recess, or instructional time, unless for direct educational purposes as instructed by a staff member, or otherwise permitted by the building principal for access to curriculum as determined by a 504, to meet a special education need as determined by an IEP, written in an IHP for medical reasons, for emergencies, or to remove a language barrier. Personal electronic devices include, but are not limited to, cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, iPads, etc. Failure to follow school processes and procedures for device collection or storage is also a direct violation of this policy.
We recognize that our students will be adjusting to these new expectations in the first days of school. You can support them by having conversations now about what will be expected. If we work together, we can help our students build healthier and more productive technology habits. Please see the frequently asked questions in this section.
Cell phone-free schools can enhance student focus, engagement in learning, and overall mental well-being.
