Welcome to Spoede Elementary School! Many aspects of our school’s community make us unique, and I’m proud to share just some of them with you today! Spoede’s diversity, in many ways, makes us a special community. When reflecting on our school, I often say, “Everyone is different, so no one is different.” Spoede students leave our school with a true appreciation and respect for diversity. Another way Spoede stands out is through our Families and Leadership groups. Our large families have about 100 members, and our smaller Turtle Teams are a mix of K-4 students and one adult. Families stay together for their entire time at Spoede. The hope is that this group gives each child about ten people to turn to in a time of need. Spoede Leadership groups allow students to apply for jobs within the school to gain responsibility. These groups range from the cleaning crew, who sanitizes our school to keep everyone well, to coffee cartel cart leaders who manage a coffee cart for teachers to buy coffee.
Now that I have described some of what makes Spoede so special, I’d like to share some information about myself.
I received a bachelor’s degree from Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, where I majored in Secondary Education and English, with a minor in Special Education. After teaching for ten years, I completed my master’s degree at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Shortly after receiving my degree, I relocated to the St. Louis area. In 2003, I received an administrative position with the Special School District in the Bayless School District, serving grades K-12. In 2006, I began pursuing my doctorate at Saint Louis University in the area of Educational Leadership, finishing in May of 2009. My first principalship began in 2007 at Bayless Intermediate School, and I have been the principal of Spoede Elementary since 2012.
I can’t express how happy I am to have found a family at Spoede Elementary School where we work hand in hand with parents to develop caring, service-minded leaders and problem-solvers.

Mr. Issac Bjerk
Hello, Conway and Spoede Elementary families! I am incredibly excited to meet and work with you this upcoming year! My goal is to make this school year one of discovery, growth, and joy as we learn and work together.
This year will be my very first as assistant principal. I spent the previous three years working as a District Facilitator in the Kirkwood School District. Before my experience in Kirkwood, I taught right here, in Ladue School District, working at Spoede Elementary and the Fifth Grade Center for the first ten years of my educational career. I’m thrilled to be back in Ladue, working with the students, teachers, and families that together make this a great place to work and learn!
As we move into and through this school year, please don’t hesitate to reach out and connect if there’s anything I can do for you and your family. Real, positive relationships are the essence of what I do and why I do it, and I can’t wait to meet and form those relationships with each of you.
