Missouri Law Wastewater Testing

October 1, 2026

Ladue Horton Watkins High School, along with 164 other schools across the state, has been selected to participate in the Wastewater Testing for School Safety program, mandated by state law for the 2026-27 school year. This program is administered by the Missouri Department of Public Safety in coordination with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. On June 30, 2026, Governor Mike Kehoe signed into law two pieces of legislation requiring schools selected by DPS to participate in the state’s efforts to monitor and identify dangerous drugs in schools, including fentanyl and nitazenes.

As a state-funded sampling program, the testing results are open public records.

The assigned state contractor is scheduled to take 11 wastewater samples at LHWHS during the 2026-27 school year, beginning on Oct. 5 and concluding on April 26, 2027. Sample collection is strictly limited to external wastewater (sewers); therefore, testing will not disrupt our school day.

We will continue to keep families and staff informed as information is made available. Please see the FAQs for additional information about the state's program.
