Secondary Course Approval
Changes to the courses offered at the secondary level are approved by the Board of Education annually in November.
Timeline
September
Building administration meets with department chairs to identify proposed course additions, deletions, and revisions. Courses that may have cross-departmental implications should be reviewed by the appropriate departments, and counselors should be included in the review.
October
Building administration meets with Special Education Administrators to determine if changes are needed in special education courses. Building Administration meets with the curriculum coordinators to review course proposal additions, deletions, and revisions. Minimal changes should be made when the department is not in the process of a program evaluation.
October-November
Curriculum and Instruction Board Advisory reviews course additions, deletions, and revisions.
November
All course proposed changes are due to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in memo format for the board of education. Secondary principals will attend the board meeting when changes are presented to answer questions.
December - August
Curriculum for new and revised courses will be completed using district templates, and the appropriate components will be approved by the Board of Education before the school year.
