Screening and Identification

Students who meet the eligibility criteria in TWO of the three screening categories are eligible to take the IQ test. *Universal screening takes place in grades kindergarten and second grade.

Screening Tools Criteria (Qualifying Score)

Phase 1: Problem-Solving (Group administered test)

  • A nonverbal measure of general ability

Local normed problem-solving test:

  • A qualifying score is top 15% or higher

Phase I: Creativity (Group administered test)

  • A measure of originality, fluency, flexibility, and elaboration in creative thinking.

Local normed creativity test:

  • A qualifying score:
    • Grade K: 1s on 3+ lessons
    • Grade 1-8: Top 15% or higher

Phase 2: Academic Performance (Performance Task Assessment)

  • i-Ready (Elementary)
  • NWEA (Middle School)

Performance Tasks Assessment: Nationally age-normed aptitude test:

  • For i-Ready/NWEA, a qualifying score is top 15% or higher on Language Arts and Mathematics during the same test session

Phase 3: Final Identification (Individually administered test)

Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children - Fifth Edition (WISC-V)

  • A measure of general thinking and reasoning skills (IQ tests are designed as “novel” tasks for which the student does not have previous experience.)

A qualifying score of 130+ or higher

  • The qualifying score can be met with a Full Scale IQ (FSIQ) or General Abilities Index (GAI)

Testing 

  • Make every effort to have your child in school, on time, except in case of illness (We will begin testing promptly).
  • Please see that your child gets rest on the nights before these tests.
  • Please make sure that your child eats a nourishing breakfast.
  • Encourage your child to listen attentively to the testing directions.
  • Encourage your child to persevere if there are questions that seem difficult
