Acceleration Process

The Ladue Schools Acceleration Process, which can be initiated by a teacher, counselor, principal, parent, or student. The initial nomination is based on a student's current test data and/or classroom performance.

  1. Start the Summary of Assessment Data: A summary of the student's assessment data is created.
  1. Initial Data Review: The process then checks for specific criteria:
  • An IQ of greater or equal to 145 on at least one sub-scale, AND
  • Achievement scores of 99% in either Communication Arts or Mathematics.
  • NWEA ELA, i-Ready, or Math scores are greater than or equal to 90%, two years above grade level.
  1. Alternative Curricular Options:
  • If the student doesn't meet the IQ and achievement criteria, the NWEA criteria, or the i-Ready criteria, other curricular alternatives are considered. These can include curriculum compacting, independent projects, small group enrichment, or technology-based programs.
  1. Initiating the Iowa Acceleration Scale:
  • If the student does meet the IQ/achievement criteria, the NWEA criteria, or the i-Ready criteria, the Iowa Acceleration Scale process begins. All available information is compiled on the scale..
  1. Data Review and Brainstorming:
  • The principal, counselor, and classroom teacher(s) review the data and add information to the Iowa Acceleration Scale. They also brainstorm ideas for possible programming for the student.
  1. Team Meeting:
  • A team meeting is facilitated with the student's parents to discuss and explain test results, review student data, finish the Iowa Acceleration Scale, and make decisions about acceleration or other programming options. The team should include all necessary personnel for the decision-making process, such as principals, counselors, teachers, and gift specialists.
  1. Documentation and Follow-up:
  • The discussion and final decisions are recorded on a conference form.
  • The final step is to determine if the educational modifications are working for the student.
