LHWHS 1959 Alumnus Russell Inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame

Ladue Horton Watkins High School (LHWHS) alumnus Charles Andrew “Andy” Russell, class of 1959, will be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. The Enshrinement Ceremony will take place on January 25, 2015 in Springfield, Missouri. Andy had an impressive sports career with the LHWHS Rams, playing fullback and linebacker. He attended the University of Missouri at Columbia before playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers, earning two Super Bowl rings and being named the Steelers’ Most Valuable Player in 1971.

LHWHS Varsity Football Rams Celebrate Outstanding Season

Ladue Horton Watkins High School’s Rams celebrated some amazing  accomplishments with a 12-2 record.

  • The team was National Division Champions of the Suburban Central Conference, District Champions and State Semifinalists.
  • All Conference athletes include:  James Bell, Chuck Burton, Antoine Cade, Chino Davis, Malcolm Davis, Luke Dibler, James Dunger, Daylen Edwards, Paul Flynn, Jack Fox, Nate Howard, Ivan Hurse, Jack May, Justin Moore, James Scott, Jarrod Smith, Mario Whitley and Henry Valier. 
  • All State athletes include:  Daylen Edwards, Jack Fox, Nate Howard and Justin Moore
  • Jack Fox was named Kohl’s All-American Punt Specialist

LHWHS Boys Varsity Soccer Team Finishes Season with Impressive Recognitions.

With the second best record in Ladue Schools history, Ladue Horton Watkins High School Boys Varsity Soccer Team finished fifth in the state with a 20-5-1 record.  The team was District Champions for the third year in a row, and Sectional Champions for the second year in a row.

All Conference Athletes include: Kyle Cook, Justin Espinosa, David Maffly-Kipp, Walker Miller, Chris Naunhaim, Austin Powell, Michael Wielansky and Nik Woltz.

Fifth-Graders Collect 500 Cans of Food for “Turkey Bowl”

Fifth-graders in the Ladue School District collected 500 canned goods at the first-ever “Turkey Bowl.”  The event was held on Saturday, November 22, 2014. Ladue Horton Watkins High School varsity football captains refereed four flag football games, each with twenty-eight fifth-graders. The students opted to donate canned goods instead of paying a registration fee to play. The event benefited the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry.

The LHWHS Football Rams Win Quarterfinals Against Jackson

On Saturday, November 15, 2014, Ladue Horton Watkins High School (LHWHS) Rams won the Class 5 Quarterfinals against Jackson High School.  Junior James Bell switched the momentum for his teammates by catching a 33-yard touchdown pass to tie the game 21-21 early in the fourth quarter.  A touchdown and a field goal later, the Rams claimed a 31-21 victory. 

LHWHS Edwards and Fox Named Fox 2/Arby’s Athletes of the Week

Ladue Horton Watkins High School (LHWHS) football players Senior Jack Fox and Junior Daylen Edwards were the Fox 2/Arby’s Athletes of the Week for Friday, November 14, 2014. The duo led the Rams to a stunning comeback playoff victory over Webster Groves to earn the award.  On Saturday, November 15, 2014 the LHWHS Rams claimed the Quarterfinals victory over Jackson.

Former Ladue Schools Coach Honored with Surprise Birthday Bash

Coach Ralph Engelmeyer worked in the Ladue School District for more than thirty years, from 1958 – 1992.   When word got around that Coach Engelmeyer wasn’t in the best of health, his former colleagues, as well as graduates from the ‘60s and ‘80s when his son graduated, threw him a surprise party.  On October 10, 2014 more than seventy guests, including former coaches and counselors, gathered at the Ladue Fifth Grade Center gym to honor the man who was a role model for many students.

Ladue Alumni Gear Up for First “Alumni Football Classic”

The Ladue Alumni Sports Committee (LASC) is hosting the first-ever Ladue Alumni Football Classic on Thanksgiving weekend, Saturday, November 29, 2014, at the Ladue West Campus located at 10900 Ladue Rd. from 12 – 5 p.m.  The public is invited and encouraged to attend this game featuring alumni talent in every capacity — from the players, to the cheerleaders, to the entertainers.  Former Ladue Horton Watkins High School (LHWHS) football coach, Jerry Maher will serve as honorary coach.

LHWHS Soccer Player Michael Wielansky Named Fox2/Arby’s Athlete of the Week.

On November 8, 2014, Michael Wielansky was chosen as the Fox 2/Arby’s Athlete of the Week.  See the story aired on Fox 2.  

 

 

 

LHWHS Boys Varsity Soccer Team Wins District Championship

LHWHS Junior Chris Naunheim led the Rams to victory over rival Clayton 1-0 to claim the Class 3 District 5 championship at MICDS.  This is the third year in a row that the varsity soccer team won the district championship.  The team will advance to the sectional round. Way to go Rams and coaches Dave Aronberg and Kevin Davis!
