Contest/Fundraiser Takes Habitat for Humanity Contributions Over the $25,000 Mark

On March 12, 2013 the fifth annual “Mr. Ladue Contest” was held at Ladue Horton Watkins High School Performing Arts Center with senior Eddie Mungai winning the coveted title.  Twenty-nine young men, chosen by their coaches and club sponsors, competed through interpretive ribbon dancing, improvisation, karaoke, synchronized dance and the all-important final question.  It was all in good fun, and also for a very good cause.  The money raised through ticket sales will go directly to Habitat for Humanity and this year’s earnings took the high school’s Habitat for Humanity Chapter over the $25,000 mark in fund raising over the life of the “Mr. Ladue” event.

Alumna Jasmine Huda Hosts Foundation Luncheon

The Ladue Education Foundation once again kicked off the school year with an annual community event.  This year, the event was a luncheon attended by over 200 with Ladue Horton Watkins High School alumna Jasmine Huda as Keynote Speaker and Honorary Chair.  Jasmine Huda graduated in 1997 and is currently a news anchor for KMOV-TV.  (See video recap of luncheon.)

Reed Elementary and District Recognized for Heart Association Contributions

On May 19, 2012, Reed Elementary School, and the Ladue School District were recognized for their contributions to the American Heart Association.  The American Heart Association’s Heart Walk took place at Busch Stadium where a number of top companies were honored on the field.  Only one school — Reed Elementary School – was included and  honored for being the top school  in Missouri.  In addition, the Ladue School District was noted for being the top district in the state in raising donations in the Jump Rope/Hoops for Heart campaign.

Old Bonhomme Students Raise Money and Health Awareness

Old Bonhomme Elementary recently participated in their 8th annual Jump Rope for Heart event.  During a two-week unit in Physical Education, all of the students practiced individual and partner jumping skills, as well as long rope jumping skills.  Jumping rope is not only great aerobic exercise, but it is also a very brain-friendly exercise.  Students developed neural networks and worked to improve the function of their brains!  As part of Jump Rope for Heart, the Old Bonhomme students collected and donated $13,948 to the American Heart Association to benefit heart research and education.

During Red Ribbon Week, Old Bonhomme students focused on making good choices and raised money for the Ladue Family Assistance fund.  During Physical Education classes, they participated in a “rock ‘n’ run marathon” in which teams took turns rocking in rocking chairs and running.  Old Bonhomme students “rock” and make healthy and helpful choices!

LHWHS Students Recognized for Contributions with Visit from Dred Scott’s Great-Great-Grandaughter

Lynne Jackson, great-great-granddaughter of Dred and Harriet Scott, visited teacher Rob Good’s class on Thursday, December 1, 2011 to personally thank the students of Ladue Horton Watkins High School for participating in the penny drive which will help to fund a life-size statue of Dred and Harriet Scott.  LHWHS was one of just a few high schools in the area who raised over $500 to help build the statue to be erected near the Old Courthouse – site of the first Dred Scott freedom trials — in downtown St. Louis.

Three Ladue Schools Top Missouri American Heart Association Campaigns

With a combined contribution of $29,449.60, Reed Elementary School, Old Bonhomme Elementary School and Ladue Middle School shot hoops and jumped rope to top rankings in the state.  Reed Elementary School, under the leadership of Kim Plogger raised $14,708.90 for Jump Rope for Heart, taking third place in the state for most funds raised.  Old Bonhomme Elementary School, under the leadership of Connie Jander, raised $9,449.70 for Jump Rope for Heart, placing sixth in the state.  Ladue Middle School, under the leadership of Stephanie O’Neal raised $5,291.00 for Hoops for Heart, placing second in the state.
