Eighth Graders Score High on National French Contest Exam

Several Ladue Middle School eighth grade students recently took the National French Contest Exam and won medals for their performances. See the list below!

Bronze Medals: Jenna Gold, Madeline Stoces, Angela Liu (8), Bradford Siwak

LMS 8th Grade French Students Recognized by National Association of French Teachers

In March 2015, more than 10,0000 students across the country, including nineteen Ladue Middle School 8th grade French students, participated in the National French Contest Exam. When the results were released in May, sixteen LMS students scored high enough to receive recognition from the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF).

2014 Graduate Lijowska Receives Excellence in Foreign Language Study Award

Kansas City, MO — Ladue Horton Watkins High School alumna, Magda Lijowska has been honored for Excellence in Foreign Language Study by the Foreign Language Association of Missouri (FLAM). Lijowska and her Spanish teacher, Mrs. Maritza Sloan, were honored at FLAM’s annual fall conference in Kansas City on October 18, 2014.

LHWHS’ Lund Receives “Language Matters” Award

Deborah Lund, German teacher at Ladue Horton Watkins High School has been selected as the 2014 recipient of the AATG/Intercultural Student Experience Language Matters Award.  This award is presented annually to a high school teacher of German for creative methods, providing immersion experiences, and motivating students to speak German outside the classroom.

Lund will be honored during the Awards Presentation at the AATG Annual Meeting held in conjunction with the ACTFL Annual Convention and World Languages Expo on Saturday, November 22, 2014.

Senior Ting Ding Takes First Place in National Poster Contest

Ting Ding, a 2014-15 senior at Ladue Horton Watkins High School, and student of Sra. Maritza Sloan’s Spanish 4 class, received first place in the digital category from the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP).

The poster contest is a demonstration of students’ understanding of the importance and uses for new languages. The theme for this year’s contest was, “Enriquece tu vida aprediendo otras lenguas” (Enrich your life by learning other languages).

Spanish Honor Society Creates Special Birthday Celebration

On April 27, 2014, 25 Spanish Honor Society students gathered at the Ronald McDonald house to celebrate the birthday of two residents – Eduardo, from Ecuador, turned two-years-old and Andre, from Perú, turned 6.  The students went all the way by preparing a piñata, cake, decorations, games and songs for the children.   These students made a very special Sunday for those small residents at the Ronald McDonald house.
