A Cappella Group Viva Voce Takes First Place at 2018 Midwest ICHSA Quarterfinals

Congratulations to Viva Voce, the a cappella group at the high school that won first place last night at the 2018 Midwest ICHSA Quarterfinals! The group now will be moving on to compete in the semifinal round in DeKalb, Illinois, for a chance to sing at the Beacon Theatre in NYC!

Junior Menea Kefalov was also awarded Outstanding Soloist of the night.

LHWHS Debater Edward Wu Earns Top Recognition

Edward Wu, a senior at Ladue Horton Watkins High School, earned his Degree of Premier Distinction in the National Forensic League, the honor society for the National Speech and Debate Association. Throughout his four years on the team, Edward has earned over 1,500 points and this places him in the top 1% of speech and debate competitors in the country.

The Degree of Premier Distinction is the highest degree level a student can attain in the National Forensic League. The Degree of Premier Distinction is a reflection of Edward’s work ethic, dedication to the team, and competitive excellence. Edward is currently the team president and, for the second year in a row, is the co-coordinator for Public Forum Debate and Congressional Debate. This past weekend, Edward and his partner placed 1st in Public Forum Debate at the Greater Saint Louis Speech Association Conference Tournament and Edward was named Conference Champion in Congressional Debate.

Five Students Earn Awards at All-Suburban Middle School Honors Bands

Congratulations to the following students who earned a place in the St. Louis All-Suburban Middle School Honors Bands. They were among the more than 500 students from the St. Louis Suburban District that took a blind audition.

“They represent themselves and Ladue Middle School with honor,” band director Aaron Lehde said. “I’m very proud of their hard work and dedication.”

High School Students Wins Seats in All-State Band and All-State Orchestra

Congratulations to the following Ladue Horton Watkins High School students on winning a seat in the All-State Band or All-State Orchestra. These students competed against students from across the state via blind auditions in Columbia, MO.

These students will represent LHWHS at performances at the MMEA convention at Tan-Tar-A on Jan. 25-28, 2017.

Senior Announced a Winner of the 18th Annual George N. Tuerck Concerto Competition

Congratulations to Joel Rosen, a senior at LHWHS, who was announced one of three winners of the Belleville Philharmonic Youth Orchestra’s 18th annual George N. Tuerck Concerto Competition!

The three students will perform at the orchestra’s Tuerck Memorial Concert at 3 p.m. Dec. 3 at Life Church, 4180 Smelting Works Road in Swansea. The public is invited.

Joel, the son of Robert and Wendy Rosen, plays cello with the St. Louis Youth Orchestra and Preparatory Program. He has attended the Rocky Mountain Summer Conservatory for three years. He also plays piano. He is a Ladue Tri-M Music Honor Society member and Ultimate Frisbee competitor.

Ladue Schools Students selected for Community Music School ensembles and orchestras

Congratulations to several Ladue School District students who have been selected for the Community Music School of Webster University (CMS) orchestras and ensembles!

Each group performs several concerts during the school year. The concerts are free and open to the public and are held at the Community Music School Center, 535 Garden Avenue, Webster Groves, MO 63119.

Freshmen to Perform Concertos With MBU/SCC Orchestras

Congratulations to freshmen Anna Zhong and Christopher Ye of Ladue Horton Watkins High School, who both auditioned and were chosen to perform with the Missouri Baptist University and Saint Charles Community College Symphony Orchestras in the 1st annual Solo Concert at MBU.

Both Anna, playing Mendelssohn Violin Concerto Opus 64 in e minor (3rd Movement), and Christopher, playing Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto Opus 22 in g minor (1st Movement), will perform on Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, on the campus of Missouri Baptist University in the Pillsbury/Wainwright Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Feel free to come and support these two young musicians representing Ladue Schools!

Kudos also go out to the LHWHS orchestra music education and instructors Twinda Murry, Ruth Panhorst, and Elizabeth Dalbey, for identifying and nurturing these students’ talents.

Old Bonhomme Hosts 4th Annual Interactive Art Show

Old Bonhomme Elementary hosted its 4th Annual Spring Interactive Art Show last Tuesday, April 19. Parents and visitors downloaded QR code reading apps on their smart devices. With phone or iPad in hand, they could then scan the barcodes on each piece of art to hear an audio recording share information about the piece of art being viewed! The students enjoyed helping their parents use the technology to learn more about the pieces displayed. When it comes to art, Ladue Schools has some talented young students!

Ladue Middle School Orchestra Students Score High at Solo & Ensemble

Congratulations to the following 32 Ladue Middle School orchestra students who participated in the St. Louis Suburban Music Educators Association’s Solo and Ensemble Festival! These students worked hard on their performances for weeks leading up to this event, and their dedication paid off.
