LMS Hosts Speakers Series for Black History Month

On February 15, 2012, students and staff at the Ladue Middle School had the opportunity to hear from nine accomplished African-American professionals from the St. Louis area who came to the school to speak about their professional experiences, as well as their dedication to making the world a more equal place.  The speaker series is just one part of how Ladue Middle School is using Black History Month to both celebrate and learn about the many contributions of African-Americans.  The Black Experience Speaker Bios

LHWHS’ Goble Blog Featured on USATodayEducation.com

On February 1, 2012,USAToday’s Education page, the Teacher Lounge, featured the blog of Ladue Horton Watkins High School’s Broadcast Production Teacher, Don Goble.  The blog, entitled  “Media Literacy: A Necessary 21st Century Skill,” was featured on National Digital Learning Day.   “I am fortunate to share my story on this historic day with educators across the country,” states Goble.  “My hope will be widespread awareness and attention to the topic of media literacy.”

Michelle Schmitt Receives January 2012 Excellence in Education Award

Michelle Schmitt, librarian at Ladue Horton Watkins High School, was presented with the January 2012 Excellence in Education Award at the January 23, 2012 Board of Education meeting.

Ladue Horton Watkins High School Principal Dr. Bridget Hermann describes Michelle as a highly valued member of the Ladue Horton Watkins’ family who has worked very hard to make the library a center of activity, as opposed to simply a quiet place to study and read.

Ladue Middle School Named Missouri School of Character

Ladue Middle School is one of 12 schools from the St. Louis metropolitan region to have earned distinction as a 2012 Missouri School of Character.   The program is conducted by CHARACTERplus®, a division of Cooperating School Districts, and is the most rigorous award process in the field of character education. 

Gutchewsky Article to Be Published This Summer

Ladue Horton Watkins High School language arts teacher Kim Gutchewsky was recently notified that her article “Transforming Reading Education: One District’s Expansion of Literacy Responsibility” will be published by the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) in the Educational Leadership’s Summer Online 2012 issue.  The issue will be solely focused on reading skills.

LMS’ Davis Publishing First Novel: Finding My Smile

A budding romance.  A stunning revelation.  A dramatic journey through anger and delinquency to hope and faith in the face of adversity.

Beracha Brings E-Reader Program to LMS

LHWHS Head Football Coach Named Suburban East Conference Coach Third Year Running

Mike Tarpey was named Suburban East Conference Coach of the Year for the third year in a row.  Tarpey coached the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Varsity football team to the 2011 Suburban East Conference Championship.
