Choir Director Honored with Presidential Award of Excellence

Ladue Schools would like to congratulate one of our esteemed staff members for being awarded the Missouri Choral Director’s Association 2015 “Presidential Award of Excellence!”

Thomas Lowery is the choir director for Ladue Horton Watkins High School and the Ladue Fifth Grade Center. He also teaches Introduction to Piano and is the vocal coach for the Spring Musical.

“I was humbled when I heard I was selected,” he said. “It’s an honor when somebody recognizes the work that you’ve done.”

Students Raise Over $1300 for Cancer Research

Students and staff in the Ladue School District stood up to cancer by raising $1,385 for a cure in this year’s School and Youth Campaign!

Each year, the spirit and hard work of our teachers and students helps the Gateway Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society continue funding research for cures and treatments for blood cancers. Our support also helps the chapter provide services to these patients and families during their times of need.

Two LHWHS Seniors Awarded, Five Graduate from STARS Program

Two juniors from Ladue Horton Watkins High School who participated in the 2015 Students and Teachers as Research Scientists (STARS) program won an LMI Aerospace Award in Excellence in Research after presenting their papers to a panel of research scientists!

Gregory Farn and Bianca Yu, two of the 27 winners, received their awards at a reception on Oct. 19, 2015, in the University of Missouri-St. Louis’ Century Rooms of the Millennium Student Center.

LMS Students Interview Academy Award Winner

Two Ladue Middle School students shone brightly at the International Literacy Association Conference last weekend, where they had the opportunity to interview keynote speaker and Academy Award Winner Octavia Spencer.

The event was held at America’s Center where, on a stage in front of thousands of guests, students Dale Chesson and Kiara Crawford spoke with Octavia, best known for starring in films like “The Help” and “Black and White.”

2015 LHWHS Alumni Victorious at International Mathematical Olympiad

A Ladue Horton Watkins High School graduate helped the U.S. bring home the gold this year at one of the most renowned global competitions: the International Mathematical Olympiad. This was Yang Liu’s second year on the U.S. team. Yang, 18, graduated in May and has won a gold medal both years he’s participated in the contest. This year’s competition was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from July 4- 13, 2015.

This year, the U.S. team beat out China for the No. 1 spot overall, 185-181. South Korea took third place. About two decades have passed since the U.S. won the competition. Last year, the U.S. took second place.

Ladue Alumna Sauerbrunn Is a 2015 World Cup Champion

The Ladue School District can boast that one of its own helped bring home the World Cup Final win against Japan on Sunday, July 2, 2015, in Vancouver, British Columbia.  Alumna Becky Sauerbrunn was a starter for the U.S. women’s national soccer team, which beat the opposition 5-2.

Becky, from the Class of 2003, is a star defender for Team USA. This weekend, after all of her hard work, she had the chance to battle alongside her teammates for the big win against Japan. She played the full 90 minutes of the final.
