LHWHS Second in U.S. in Online Math Competition

Ladue Horton Watkins High School (LHWHS) recently placed second in a national pilot test of the Interstellar online math competition associated with American Mathematic Competitions (AMC).   LHWHS’ team was comprised of Yang Liu (sophomore), Max Schindler (senior), and Victor Wang (senior.)

1998 Ladue Schools Alumni To Appear on “The Tonight Show”

As reported on on March 27,2013…

The last time he appeared as a guest on The Tonight ShowJustin Willman performed a magic trick that involved a cup of soda over the head of Oscar nominee Hugh Jackman in December.

Now, just a few months later, Willman, host of Cupcake Wars on the Food Network as well as a touring magician/entertainer with a thing for the sleight of hand, will be back on the program Wednesday.

Reed Staff “Give Kids A Smile”

Four staff members from Reed Elementary School participated in the “Give Kids A Smile” recent biannual clinic which provided nearly 600 St. Louis children with complimentary cleanings, fillings, X-rays and other care from dentists and hygienists.  Volunteers help guide children through the assembly line of treatment.

LHWHS Students Participate in HEC-TV/Fox 2 Weather Presentation

HEC-TV is partnering with KTVI Fox 2 to present a very special HEC-TV Live! program on April 4,2013 about the science behind weather forecasting.  During the live show, students will have the opportunity to interact with St. Louis’ KTVI Fox 2 Meteorologist Chris Higgins to take a tour of his weather studio and find out what goes into creating a forecast.

SSD Staff Members Honored at SSD Salutes Banquet

On March 6, 2013, the Special School District of St. Louis (SSD) held its annual SSD Salutes Banquet where 45 staff and community members were honored for their outstanding efforts on behalf of SSD and its students.  Among those honored were three SSD staff members affiliated with the Ladue School District.

Spoede Wins Missouri State Chess Tournament

Over the weekend of March 9-10, 2013, Spoede Elementary School students participated, and won first place, in the Missouri State Chess Tournaments in two categories:  Third Grade and Under, and Fifth Grade and Under.  These wins qualifies the team to participate in the National Championship in Nashville, TN in April.

LHWHS Panorama Staff Excels at School Publications Conference

On March 11, 2013, student writers for the Ladue Horton Watkins High School newspaper, Panorama, attended the Sponsors of School Publications regional conference at Webster University.  Judges from around the national scholastic journalism field critiqued their work.

Five Speech and Debate Students Qualify for State at District Tournament

On March 2, 2013, the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Speech and Debate Team participated in District tournaments, with five students qualifying for the state competition.
  • Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking: Sarah Allen – 2nd place
  • Original Oratory: Jerome Gregory – 3rd place
  • Radio Speaking: Emily Chu – 4th place
  • Lincoln-Douglas Debate: Jerome Gregory – semifinalist; and Haohang Xu – 2nd place

LHWHS Broadcast Student Receives National Recognition

C-SPAN recently announced the 75 winning videos in the 2013 StudentCam competition, and Ladue Senior Samantha Shanker was recognized with an Honorable Mention for her documentary, “On Education.” 

LMS Science Bowl Places Second in Region

On Saturday, March 2, 2013, the Ladue Middle School Science Bowl Team placed second at the regional tournament at the St. Louis Science Center.  The team was undefeated going into the final round.  Team members (from left to right) are: Patrick Naughton, Teddy Vincent, Jeffrey Wang, Melissa Melnick and Julia Lieu.
