2011-12 Graduate Keeps an Eye on the Department of Education

LHWHS Junior Chang Wins “Poetry Out Loud” Contest

Katy Chang, a junior at Ladue Horton Watkins High School, won the school’s Poetry Out Loud competition in early January and will be representing the Ladue School District at the St. Louis regional competition.

Award Presented for LECC Construction Best Practices

The Ladue School District’s early childhood center was recognized for best practices in the construction industry by the St. Louis Council of Construction Consumers (SLCCC) during its annual awards on December 13, 2012 at the Sheraton Westport Lakeside Chalet, St. Louis, MO.

Old Bonhomme Parent Publishes Article After Sandy Hook Tragedy

Middle School Celebrates “I Am LMS” Day

During the month of December 2012, Ladue Middle School celebrated its diversity.  On Thursday, December 20, 2012, the culminating event was “I Am LMS” day which featured student led presentations, speakers, dancing, videos and other activities.  Included in the videos was this student produced video on disabilities awareness. 

Laduettes Place First at St. Charles Dance Competition

On January 26, 2013, the Laduettes, Ladue Horton Watkins High School’s dance team, placed first in both categories in which they competed — Poms and Hip Hop — at a competition at St. Charles High School.  The team will be competing at the National Dance Team Championship in Orlando, Florida on February 2 and 3, 2013.  The team is coached by Julie Fields and Alexandra Whaley Gunther.

Reed’s Schwartz Receives U.S. Department of State Fellowship

Sarah Adams Schwartz, Spanish teacher at Reed Elementary School has been awarded a fellowship from the U.S. Department of State to participate in the Educational Seminar: 2012-2013 Uruguay Educator Exchange Program. Mrs. Schwartz is one of 10 educators who have been selected from the United States to participate. She will be hosting Mariana Othaix, of Salto, Uruguay in February at Reed Elementary School in the Ladue School District. Mrs. Schwartz will travel to Uruguay for two weeks in summer, 2013 for the reciprocal component of this exchange, sponsored by the Fulbright Commission in Uruguay. 

Reed’s Eisenman Knows Every Penny Counts

LHWHS Soccer Players Win Regional and State Placements

Senior Michael Kelly, and Juniors Eric Stuber and Eric Petersen all earned spots as Players of the Year for the 2012 Boys Class 2 Central Division.  In the 2012 Boys Class 2 All State Rankings, Stuber was placed on the Second Team and Petersen received Honorable Mention.  Overall, the Ladue Horton Watkins High School Soccer Team placed ninth in the state.

Speech and Debate Team Kicks Off 2012-13 Second Semester

Fourteen novice members of the Ladue Horton Watkins High School speech and debate team attended Parkway North High School’s Novice Debate Round Robin on January 5, 2013. After only one day of practice following Winter Break, the students competed in six rounds of debate.

Congratulations to the following students who were recognized in the awards ceremony. Freshmen Renee Colby and Jackie Wong placed sixth in Policy Debate. In Lincoln-Douglas Debate three students were awarded medals: freshman Rasika Sant placed sixth; sophomore Tushar Raj earned fourth place, and freshman Huayu Gao received third place. Raj and Gao completed the tournament with a perfect 6-0 record.

The speech and debate team continues their season with the finals round of the Greater Saint Louis Speech League tournament on January 18 and 19, 2013.
