LHWHS Shanker Selected to National Scholastic Press Honor Roll

Ladue Junior Samantha Shanker was recently selected for the National Scholastic Press Association’s (NSPA) Journalism Honor Roll. Samantha is the Executive Student Producer for the high school television show, Ladue View. Samantha has also helped Ladue High School pilot a multimedia curriculum this year, by providing print and video content for (Ladue Newspaper & Yearbook Advisor) Jill Proehl’s new online Panorama publication. Samantha was ultimately selected by the NSPA for her dedication to scholastic journalism and for her academic excellence.

Old Bonhomme Students Raise Money and Health Awareness

Old Bonhomme Elementary recently participated in their 8th annual Jump Rope for Heart event.  During a two-week unit in Physical Education, all of the students practiced individual and partner jumping skills, as well as long rope jumping skills.  Jumping rope is not only great aerobic exercise, but it is also a very brain-friendly exercise.  Students developed neural networks and worked to improve the function of their brains!  As part of Jump Rope for Heart, the Old Bonhomme students collected and donated $13,948 to the American Heart Association to benefit heart research and education.

LHWHS Zhong Selected as Semifinalist in Presidential Scholars Program

The U.S. Department of Education selected 10 Missouri seniors as semifinalists in the prestigious U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

“The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program is one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students,” said Missouri Commissioner of Education Chris L. Nicastro. “These semifinalists represent some of the brightest and most talented seniors in our state, and I commend them for their hard work and commitment to educational success. Achievements such as this make us Missouri Proud!”

LHWHS English Department Hosts Richard Newman

On April 12, 2012, The Ladue Horton Watkins High School English department brought in Richard Newman, local poet and editor of the St. Louis literary magazine, River Styx.  Students had the opportunity to talk with Newman about the process of writing and reading poetry.

Hahn and Haywood-Gaskin Receive Benjamin Lawson Hooks Excellence in Education Award

Two Ladue Horton Watkins High School teachers will be recognized with the prestigious Benjamin Lawson Hooks Excellence in Education Awards June 5, 2012.  Dr. Eric Hahn and Angela Haywood-Gaskin will be recognized at the St. Louis County NAACP annual Freedom Fund fellowship dinner on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Clayton.
