1984 Alumnus Publishes “Joe the Crab” Series

Ladue Schools Superintendent Recognized for Performance

Dr. Marsha Chappelow, Superintendent of the Ladue School District was among eight Missouri superintendents recognized by the Missouri Association of School Administrators (MASA) for outstanding performance as a new superintendent.  Dr. Chappelow was nominated for the honor by her colleagues in the Greater St. Louis area and honored during the awards banquet at the MASA Spring Conference on March 21, 2012.

LECC Calkins Receives February Excellence in Education Award

On February 27, 2012, Barb Calkins, a preschool teacher at the Ladue Early Childhood Center (LECC), received the February 2012 Excellence in Education Award.  Barb has been working for the Ladue School District since 1987 when she came to the district as a Parents and Child Together teachers for infants and toddlers.  The next year she became a preschool teacher and has been with the school district in that position ever since.

LMS Students Qualify for State MathCounts Competition

On Saturday February 18, 2012, Ladue Middle School took 10 Mathletes and one Alternate, in the 6th-8th grades, to the Regional MathCounts Competition held at Florissant Valley Community College. LMS participants were: Spencer Chen, Hans Chan, Jeffrey Wang, Alex Tan, Justin Chen, Stephanie Zhong, Olivia Long, Tom Liu, Albert Liu, Patrick Hwang, and Barath Palanisamy (Alt). Over 130 participants from schools all over the St. Louis region participated in the competition. 

LHWHS Junior Wang Wins the Gold in Math

Ladue Horton Watkins High School Junior Victor Wang, representing the U.S.A. Team at the Romanian Master of Mathematics competition in Bucharest, won an individual gold award on March 3, 2012.  The U.S.A. team finished fourth with Wang’s score being a significant contributor.

LHWHS Juniors Are “Just Sayin”

Ladue Horton Watkins High School Juniors, Samantha Weil and Samantha Shanker participated in the script writing, production and performance of an “I’m Just Sayin” feature on KSDK News Channel 5 aired on March 9, 2012.  The piece was created in conjunction with students from Gateway Institute of Technology High School.  The theme centers around the need for improvement in the coverage of and campaigning done by candidates for political office.

Congressional Debate District Tournament

Students from Ladue Horton Watkins High School joined their peers in the Saint Louis area to compete in the Congressional Debate District Tournament on Saturday, 25 February 2012. This experience was unique because the Eastern Missouri District holds their Congressional Debate District Tournament in the Capitol Building in Jefferson City, Missouri.

“I Speak for Others” Award Given to LHWHS Student

Jerome Gregory (junior, Ladue Horton Watkins High School) was honored at the Marquette Invitational (speech and debate tournament) with the I Speak for Others Award. The award honors a student who uses skills gained through speech and debate and uses them to positively impact his/her community.
